Which is the best AI chatbot?

Since ChatGPT hit the market a couple of years ago, Microsoft, Google, and several smaller players have come out with their own chatbots. But what sets them apart? Below, we compare the three most popular chatbots on the market: ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini, so you can more easily find the best solution for your needs.

ChatGPT - the pioneer within generative AI
When OpenAI first launched ChatGPT in late 2022, it was like a whole new world opened up. In just two months, the platform gained over 100 million users, and suddenly everyone was talking about the possibilities of generative AI. The concept quickly spread to become a hot topic of conversation at the dinner table and a natural part of our daily lives.
The GPT-3.5 language model became popular for its ability to generate text and converse in a way that felt natural. It also supports many different languages, which is advantageous if you work in an international organization.
A few years later, the tool has been updated and improved further. Among other things, the GPT-4 language model is now available to free users (although with a limit of about 15 messages every three hours). But to get access to additional features such as image generation with DALL-E and document scanning, you need to be a Plus subscriber. Then you can also create your own customized versions of ChatGPT, tailored for specific tasks or needs.
Copilot – when you prefer Microsoft
Originally designed as a GitHub coding assistant, Copilot has evolved into a versatile AI tool available as a web and mobile app, with no account registration required.
Powered by the GPT-4 language model, Copilot seamlessly integrates with Microsoft’s Bing search engine, giving you access to answers that include source citations and web links – something that’s especially beneficial if you want to minimize the risk of AI hallucinations. The tool also offers helpful prompt suggestions, making it easy for users to get started.
However, the free version of Copilot is limited to a few answers per conversation and up to 4,000 characters per prompt. With a paid account, you can access more advanced features, such as more comprehensive answers and a better user experience across the entire Microsoft platform.
Fördelar:
- Uses the GPT-4 language model
- Seamless integration with the Microsoft platform
- Ability to get answers with source of reference
- Intuitive chatbot with prompt examples
Nackdelar:
- Limited amount of sessions on the free version
Gemini – for the total Google experience
Gemini, Google's counterpart to ChatGPT, was introduced in 2023 and promised both advanced features and an intuitive user experience.
The chatbot, which was initially called Bard, uses the latest version of Google's own language model and is available as both a web and mobile app. The tool not only offers fast and accurate answers without limitations on the number of sessions, but also the ability to generate images and upload photos thanks to integration with Google Lens.
Gemini is free to use, but the paid version included in the subscription service includes several benefits, such as access to an upgraded language model and cloud storage. Regardless of which version you choose, the interface is user-friendly and similar to what you may already be used to from ChatGPT.
Something important to know is that Gemini, unlike ChatGPT and Copilot, uses Google's search engine as a source of information. This means that the quality of the answers is directly linked to the quality of the search results, and what Gemini cannot find on Google, it cannot answer either.
Gemini is especially useful if you already use other Google products. You can also add extensions that support a wide range of Google apps and make Gemini an increasingly integrated part of the Google experience.
Pros:
- Seamless integration with other Google products
- Unlimited amount of sessions in the free version
- Feature to upload images in the free version
Cons:
- Geminis knowledge base is directly linked to Google's search results.
