There’s no single path to career growth

At Twoday,  3,000 experts work across data, software, and cloud engineering – each with their own path and story. In earlier posts, we’ve shared growth journeys from Louise in Denmark, Jarmo and Artturi in Finland, as well as Julie in Norway. This time, the spotlight turns to Janne from Finland and William from Sweden, and two very different perspectives on what career growth can look here.

Janne's story: Growth built on trust

For Janne Tallqvist, growth has never been about titles or predefined steps. It has been about trust – being trusted by others and earning that trust through action. “Growth and the path toward it has shown itself to me as trust,” he says. “Trust in me and what I do. I’ve been given the freedom to show what I can do and to take my place.”

That freedom has shaped his journey at Twoday Finland. Growth didn’t come from one defining moment, but from many everyday situations where responsibility was shared, decisions were made together, and confidence built over time. One conversation stands out, when Janne discussed how to organise management for development teams in Helsinki and Oulu with Oskari Huiskala.

“I just asked him: is this the place where I should nominate myself?” he recalls. It turned out it was.

Janne is quick to point out that growth is never a solo effort. Colleagues, managers, and his own team have all played a role. “I would not have these opportunities without all sides voting for me.”

Challenges have been part of the journey too, from learning to keep calm to handling difficult situations and complex processes like RFPs. One lesson has stayed with him throughout: “I know very little about almost anything – but I can figure it out.” Looking back, what he’s most proud of isn’t a title, but the people he works with and what they’ve built together.

William's story: Learning by trying

William Sprangers’ growth story is driven by curiosity and a willingness to experiment. When he joined Twoday Sweden in 2022 as part of the graduate team in Gothenburg, much of what he worked with was new – technologies, industries, and ways of working.

Instead of waiting to feel ready, he chose to try. “To me, growth is all about trial and error,” William says. “If you never try new things, how are you supposed to grow and evolve?”

Since then, he has moved across projects and roles, from hands-on development to workshops and pre-sales, presenting Twoday and its technologies to customers. Each step added new skills and confidence, supported by colleagues and managers who encouraged him to explore.

“The culture across Twoday has been consistently supportive,” he says. “Being able to reach out to anyone, regardless of country or background, is part of what makes it such a good place to grow.”

Growth hasn’t come without challenges. Early setbacks felt overwhelming at first, but over time they became learning moments that built perspective and resilience. And if his career journey so far were a movie? William doesn’t hesitate: “Mission: Possible.”

Different paths, shared mindset

Janne’s journey is shaped by trust and responsibility. William’s by experimentation and curiosity. Their paths look different, but they meet in the same place. At Twoday, growth isn’t one-size-fits-all. It can mean stepping into leadership, trying a new domain, learning from failure, or daring to raise your hand when an opportunity appears.

What connects these stories is a culture that gives people room to try, space to learn, and trust to grow. That’s what career growth at Twoday looks like – not a fixed route, but a landscape full of possible paths.
