AURA Energy collects data in one system and gets “one truth”

Energy company AURA encountered challenges that many companies face today. Their reports and analyses were created by individuals and were spread across different storage spaces. This meant that data was not accessible to everyone and updates were tied to specific employees. The method was vulnerable to human error and very time-consuming.

Management received a large amount of reports from various departments, including financial data, project data, and customer data. AURA therefore wanted to create greater reliability and accessibility for its data.

AURA's desire for more reliable and accessible data initiated a process to find a more efficient solution. Based on AURA's wishes, Twoday has built a central Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) that has replaced some of the fragmented models in the organization that came from Excel, Access and Power BI Desktop.

Data is retrieved from the EDW for reporting and dashboards in Microsoft Power BI via a tabular model. Primarily, data is included from AURA's source system, Microsoft Dynamics AX, where data is retrieved from areas such as AURA e-commerce, Fiber, Finance and others, as well as budget data loaded via Master Data Services. In the long term, the ambition is to activate more users and free up resources from people who currently spend time updating files.

As a result, AURA is no longer as dependent on manual processes, and since the data is already prepared in a tabular model, the process of creating reports and analyses has become significantly faster.

AURA has also decided to implement Microsoft Power BI. AURA's super users have been trained to build reports in Microsoft Power BI Desktop and then share them within the organization via Microsoft Power BI Service.

Isa Kjærsgaard, Business Controller at AURA, says: "It was new for us to create a BI solution, so it was important to find a supplier who had broad expertise. Someone we could bounce ideas off on all fronts. And that's where we thought Twoday was a good match."

The solution is still relatively new and has so far replaced the old manual reports with more efficient reports in Microsoft Power BI. The next step is to have the solution implemented across the entire organization.
