Customer story - Bankdata

Seven banks, seven sets of requirements – one platform

Designing a secure, compliant cloud platform for a financial institution is complex in itself. Designing one that allows seven independent banks to develop and deploy their own products while meeting strict regulatory requirements and maintaining complete data separation adds even more complexity. This was the task faced by Bankdata, one of Denmark’s leading IT providers for the financial sector.

The challenge

In 2025, Bankdata started the ambitious project to make the switch from on-premise SQL to a cloud solution that could be used by Bankdata and the seven banks they represent.

To succeed, the new cloud platform had to meet two competing demands: standardisation and autonomy. It needed the efficiency of standardised processes while giving the banks the freedom they require to operate independently. Twoday worked with Bankdata and the seven banks to design and implement the architecture that could deliver that balance.

The solution

At the core of the solution is Databricks, which underpins a modern lakehouse architecture that combines the scalability of data lakes with the reliability and performance of data warehouses. This architecture supports Bankdata’s “Automation Highway” strategy, enabling standardisation, automation, and reuse across the platform.

The new cloud solution was created using a co-build setup. Bankdata retains full ownership of the platform with Twoday acting as a sparring and implementation partner. This approach has enabled the stakeholders from the different banks and Bankdata to take greater control in understanding and using the platform.

CUSTOMER QUOTE

“Twoday’s professional approach and their ability to have an open dialogue with all our stakeholders have been instrumental in the project’s success. Whenever any of the banks or other partners faced an issue, Twoday were there straight away to support. The co-build made us feel like one team with everyone working towards the same goal.”

The results

The new cloud platform provides Bankdata and the seven banks with:

    • Secure and compliant cloud architecture
    • Standardized and automated processes
    • Scalability to meet future needs

This means each individual bank can work with greater flexibility and accelerate innovation. At the same time, working on a common platform enables stronger collaboration across banks and partners and strengthens the wider ecosystem.

“We chose to work with Twoday for this project, because they have the level of technical expertise needed to understand the complexity of this project. The way they work – listening, asking questions, and actively supporting all stakeholders – created a strong working partnership, and a solution that the banks are confident in using.”
