Customer story - Trollhättan Energi

Using data to create fair and sustainable energy pricing

When Sweden introduced new mandatory power rates in the power grid pricing models, Trollhättan Energi faced a key challenge: how to ensure that the new structure would be fair and sustainable for all 25,000 customers ahead of its 2026 and 2027 rollouts.

Turning challenge into opportunity

When Sweden introduced new mandatory power rates in the power grid pricing models, Trollhättan Energi faced a key challenge: how to ensure that the new structure would be fair and sustainable for all 25,000 customers ahead of its 2026 and 2027 rollouts.

The new rules are designed to make electricity use more efficient — but implementing them without fully understanding their impact on each customer could risk both public trust and grid stability.

To build the right incentives for efficient grid use and to avoid peak loads, Trollhättan Energi partnered with Twoday to develop a powerful, data-driven solution.

Flexible scenario testing

Twoday combined a robust data warehouse with Power BI analytics to consolidate information from multiple systems — including consumption data, invoicing, customer registers, and contracts — into one unified platform.

With this new platform, Trollhättan Energi can now simulate different pricing models and analyze the impact on both individual customers and overall revenue. The interactive Power BI dashboard makes it easy to test real-world scenarios, such as: assuming electricity consumption is kept constant from one of the previous years, how would the new pricing model influence revenues?

The insights gained have given Trollhättan Energi the confidence to make informed decisions — ensuring that pricing remains fair and transparent, while promoting responsible energy use.

What’s more, by communicating data-backed insights clearly to customers, the company has turned a regulatory requirement into an opportunity for better service and stronger engagement.

“We knew that Twoday had experience in the energy sector and in implementing BI systems. We are very pleased with the collaboration and have experienced strong support throughout the process of turning data into a strategic resource and becoming more data-driven. With the platform in place, we see great opportunities to create value from our data.”

Equipping Trollhättan Energi to use data effectively

The new pricing tool now serves as a single source of truth, supporting both the current pricing project and future data-driven initiatives, as Trollhättan can reuse the same datasets for other Power BI reports.

Twoday is also providing training to help the Trollhättan team become Power BI super users and continue expanding their reporting capabilities. This ensures long-term value for the project and a solid foundation for future energy management.

With over 120 grid companies yet to meet the same 2027 compliance deadline, the scalable solution developed by Twoday stands as a strong reference model for digital transformation within the utilities sector.
