Meet Simo

Software Architect & Advisor

Some people fall in love with code. Others are fascinated by how technology transforms the world around us. For Simo Roikonen, it’s the space where those two meet, where engineering decisions shape how people and systems adapt to change, that makes his work so meaningful.

As a hands-on Software Architect & Advisor at Twoday, Simo focuses on building systems that don’t just work today but are ready for whatever comes next. His mission is resilience: removing friction, creating flow, and ensuring that when technology, scale, or business needs shift, both the software and the people behind it are ready.

A career built on complexity

Simo’s interest in technology started long before university. He was writing code in his teenage years and went on to earn a master’s degree in software engineering. During his studies, he swore he would never work on distributed systems again; they were too complex, too unpredictable. Today, they’re his specialty.

“I realised they’re not impossible; they’re just different,” he says. “And that difference reflects how the real world works. Once you understand that, the complexity starts to make sense.”

Over the past two decades, Simo has helped building everything from financial SaaS products to large-scale energy platforms and logistics systems used around the world. Each project deepened his expertise in scalable architecture, domain modelling, and distributed systems and also strengthened his belief that the best solutions are the ones that last.

Future-focused engineering

Technology doesn’t stand still, and neither does Simo. The rapid rise of AI is already changing how software is built and what it can do, and he’s exploring how AI-aided engineering can remove barriers, speed up iteration, and unlock new possibilities. But for him, it’s never about replacing people. It’s about amplifying their skills.

“At Twoday, our goal is to build strong foundations: modern architecture, scalable delivery, and practices that help teams grow together,” Simo explains. “Great engineering happens when people learn from each other, challenge assumptions, and stay curious.”

This forward-looking mindset shapes every part of his work. It’s not just about delivering projects; it’s about building systems, teams, and capabilities that evolve with the world around them.

Where technology meets teamwork

For Simo, great software is never just about code; it’s about people. Collaboration is what turns complex problems into lasting solutions.

“I enjoy working on challenges where technology and teamwork intersect,” he says. “The real reward is building solutions that make both the system and the people behind it stronger.”

That belief also drives his work beyond day-to-day projects. Through public initiatives like Scalable Modeling, Simo explores how teams can design growth-ready systems more efficiently, and how sharing knowledge accelerates progress across the industry.

Collaboration that creates impact

If there’s one lesson Simo has learned, it’s that successful projects start with shared understanding. When teams see the same problem clearly and have the freedom to act, remarkable things happen.

“When trust and communication are strong, decisions improve,” he says. “Flow increases when teams organize around the problem, not around structures.”

Lightweight modeling, open discussions, and constant feedback are core to his approach. The goal isn’t just to ship software; it’s to build confidence and alignment so that solutions continue to evolve long after launch.

Build what’s next

Simo’s story is about more than code: it’s about curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that technology’s true impact comes when people work together to solve meaningful problems. And as technology keeps evolving, so will the systems he builds, shaping the future one solution at a time.

Do you want to be part of a team that builds technology to last - systems that evolve, scale, and make a real difference?
