In our blog, we asked Cristian Brandt from Finland about his Hive Jumping experience in Lithuania, how he felt about living abroad, and what led him to apply to this initiative.

What is Hive Jumping?

At twoday, we continuously work to promote collaboration between colleagues and teams within our global network. With 3000 employees in 30 offices spread across five different countries, the idea of Hive Jumping was born. It's a new initiative that gives all employees the opportunity to explore our different offices in Denmark, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.

Hive jumping offers many benefits, such as the opportunity to explore new destinations while being able to work comfortably from any office. With this initiative, we encourage employees to explore new cities, get to know colleagues, and visit different locations.

Chose Vilnius for his colleague

Christian Brandt, Chief Information Security Officer at twoday Finland (Signom team), has chosen Lithuania for his exciting Hive Jumping experience. "I have a colleague in Vilnius who works with me on the Signom project. Since we’re both deep into tech development, I thought it’d be a good idea to team up in the same office for a while," Christian explains.

Throughout his stay, Christian felt warmly welcomed by everyone he met. "My colleagues have been wonderful, taking care of all arrangements related to the workplace so everything has been smooth and hassle-free," he says. "The city is charming, and even though the past few weeks have been cool and snowy weather-wise, the change in work environment has been truly refreshing."

Besides their regular work, Christian and his team also had some fun together in lively team-building activities. They went go-kart racing and had some local beers (in that order, as Christian notes with a smile), which helped them bond and relax after their hard work.

"There’s no shortage of interesting activities at the office after work. For example, you might unexpectedly find yourself in the path of a flying drone swarm or stumble upon a hidden 3D-printing press crafting miniature pieces for Dungeons & Dragons-themed board games," adds Christian.

"And guess what? It’s been a total success, lots of brainstorming and tech magic happening here!"

During his time in Vilnius, he also tried to learn Lithuanian but faced some issues. "Lithuanian is a challenging language, and as a Duolingo addict, I’m disappointed that it’s not available on the app. However, I'm trying to absorb all the information I can from my daily personal trainer disguised as a talking office elevator."

Looking ahead, Christian is eager to continue his Hive Jumping adventures. "I definitely will! I’m sure we have wonderful colleagues and cozy offices in each country, but since New Zealand isn’t an option, this would be a tough pick," Christian sums up the interview.
